Therapy to Cure Anxiety
THERAPY TO CURE ANXIETY
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT or Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy refers to the idea that our feelings come from our thoughts, not from the environment. We have the ability to change our thoughts to feel good. This theory is one of the best methods to treat anxiety. This therapy is very brief and the client knows that there will be a point when the process will end. The therapy teaches the client about thinking skills and to be rational.
In CBT, the role of the therapist is to listen to his client carefully and to understand the client’s goals and objectives of his/her life. The therapist then teaches the client and encourages him to learn and practice. CBT teaches that every person has undesirable situations. Whether we are upset or not, sad situations do not solve our problems, but increase our problems instead. CBT teaches that we must accept those past situations calmly, intelligently and we feel better by doing so. CBT assumes that since human behavior is learned, it can be unlearned. So the therapist teaches the client to learn the techniques of unlearning those undesirable behaviors. CBT teaches us how to think rationally. We learn how to think positively and rationally.
As we have discussed earlier, anxiety is very much treatable because it is all in the mind, and we must exercise our power or ability to change what is in the mind. CBT argues that negative thoughts ruin our mental health. Behavior therapy teaches us how to respond appropriately when negative thinking triggers anxiety. (http://www.nacbt.org/ whatiscbt.htm.)
